WHAT TO EXPECT

Your experience at the ship will take at least 90 minutes. Food, beverages, candy, gum or tobacco products are not permitted aboard ship.  Water is the only refreshment provided at the museum. The tour will require climbing open stairways and walking through tight spaces and may be strenuous for some visitors. For your safety, wear low-heeled, non-slip walking shoes and casual dress. Tours are given rain or shine. Visitors should opt for rain gear over use of umbrellas as they make traversing the ship difficult. Large bags and strollers are not permitted on the ship. Hand held cameras are permitted on the tour.  Tripods are not permitted. There are no restrooms on board ship.  Please use our facilities on shore before the tour. From the north:

Take I-87 S/NEW YORK STATE NORTHWAY . Merge onto I-90 E via EXIT 1E toward ALBANY/BOSTON. Merge onto I-787 S toward ALBANY/ RENSSELAER. Take the MADISON AVE exit, EXIT 3B, toward US-20 W/PORT OF ALBANY. Turn LEFT onto BROADWAY. Follow the curve of the road. At the traffic light drive straight into the parking lot next to the river. The USS SLATER is situated at the left side of the lot.

From the south:

Take I-87 N/NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY N toward ALBANY (portions toll). Merge onto I-787 N via EXIT 23 toward DOWNTOWN ALBANY/ RENSSELAER/TROY. Take EXIT 2 toward PORT OF ALBANY. Stay STRAIGHT on the exit ramp to the stop sign. Turn RIGHT onto CHURCH ST and cross the railroad tracks. Turn LEFT onto BROADWAY. Just past the large U-Haul storage building on the left there will be a traffic light. Turn right into the parking lot next to the river. The USS SLATER is situated at the left side of the lot.

From the west:

I-90 E/NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY E toward ALBANY (portions toll). Continue on I-90 E to downtown ALBANY. Merge onto I-787 S toward ALBANY/RENSSELAER. Take the MADISON AVE exit, EXIT 3B, toward US-20 W/PORT OF ALBANY. Turn LEFT onto BROADWAY. Follow the curve of the road. At the traffic light drive straight into the parking lot next to the river. The USS SLATER is situated at the left side of the lot.

From the east:

Merge onto I-90 W toward W. STOCKBRIDGE/ALBANY (portions toll). Merge onto I-90 W via EXIT B1 toward RT-9/ALBANY/HUDSON (portions toll). Merge onto I-787 S via EXIT 6A toward ALBANY. Take the MADISON AVE exit, EXIT 3B, toward US-20 W/PORT OF ALBANY. Turn LEFT onto BROADWAY. Follow the curve of the road. At the traffic light drive straight into the parking lot next to the river. The USS toward US-20 W/PORT OF ALBANY. Turn LEFT onto BROADWAY. Follow the curve of the road. At the traffic light drive straight into the parking lot next to the river. The USS SLATER is situated at the left side of the lot.
