PUBLICATIONS WANTED
DSSO Book 1965DSSO Book 1973 Department of Defense, Defense Supply Agency, Destroyer Escort Scrapping Books. These were put out for bid from the mid 1960's to the mid 1970's. These bid offerings contain pictures and technical data of equipment installed in various classes of Destroyer Escorts and are a valuable historical record to our restorations.
MANUALS: Send us your collections, what are you holding them for? To maintain, restore, operate the equipment on the USS Slater we need manuals of all types. Operator training manuals, Equipment Technical Manuals, Manufacturers Operation/Users manuals, etc. Anything you think would be of value for equipment on a Destroyer Escort would be accepted. These can be used to restore and properly maintain various pieces of equipment or identify data and nomenclature for missing parts, etc. For those pieces of equipment that may be operated the operator manuals or training manuals can be used to properly operate a piece of equipment. We plan to archive these for research and produce copies to "populate" the ship and keep with the equipment.
MESSAGE TRAFFIC: Looking for copies of WW2 message traffic so we can duplicate the style and standards in effect then. Also looking for the paper tissue sets used in transcribing messages. Also training manuals for radio operators. Some of you radiomen may have kept copies of these after WW2, we would like to create an archive. Ship's and base's call signs, convoy call signs, etc. Anything would be welcome.
