MUSEUMHard Hat Tour

The USS SLATER is now offering special extended tours of the ship! For the first time, you will be able to explore areas of the ship that have not been open to the public until now. Discover how various aspects of ship's operation function, poke your head into compartments barely large enough to crawl into and learn more about our restoration efforts. From stem to stern, you will see examples of every type of compartment on the ship. You will visit all seven levels of the ship to see such compartments as the Flying Bridge, Engine and Motor Rooms, the ship's Laundry, Anchor Windlass Room, Destroyer Escort Museum and the Steering Engine Room.

The tours are available on the first and third Wednesday and Saturday of each month. The tours begin at 1:00 PM. Please arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled tour time for orientation and a safety briefing. Tours last 3 to 4 hours. The fee is $25.00 per person regardless of age. Tours are limited to a minimum of three and a maximum of six visitors, 10 years and older. The museum reserves the right to cancel tours if minimum requirements are not met. Reservations are required 24 hours in advance. To reserve a tour, call 518-431-1943.

Please be aware of the following:

The tour requires a great deal of climbing, including several vertical ladders. Many of the compartments require the ability to navigate through small hatches and tight spaces.

Wear comfortable, flat-soled lace up shoes. No sandals or slip-ons.

Several of the spaces on the tour have had minimal restoration work done to them. You will get dirty. Please wear appropriate clothing.
